Calves must be fed more and more in line with the findings from suckler cow husbandry. This means that they should be given at least 10 liters of milk per day in the first few weeks of life. The effect of metabolic programming should definitely be used to avoid wasting hundreds of euros per calf. The CalfRail arm moves fully automatically to the individual boxes on a rail mounted above the boxes and feeds portions of fresh milk or milk replacer tailored to the individual animal. The floating CalfRail system guarantees absolute ground clearance.
In addition, the feeding arm swings freely in the air to simulate natural drinking behavior. The CalfRail recognizes the boxes and therefore the calves. All relevant data on drinking behavior, such as rations called up and drinking speed, are recorded and stored. This gives you an overview of the drinking behavior of each individual calf and allows you to take immediate action if any calves are conspicuous. Like all feeding stations, the CalfRail is controlled and supplied with feed portions by the VARIO smart automatic calf feeder. A VARIO smart simultaneously feeds calves in individual boxes and groups. The VARIO smart is operated on site using the tried-and-tested handheld or the optional 10-inch touch display. CalfRail calves can be easily assigned to a group when they are moved. The calves’ data is automatically transferred and provides you with a perfect overview of the entire rearing period.
FEED HOLDER FOR QUICK TRAINING OF THE CALVES.
CalfRail and CalfRail DUO are ideal for automatic calf feeding in single and pair housing. In order to achieve sufficient and regular feed intake, it is important to teach young animals to use the CalfRail at an early stage.
Ideally, the calf must already learn to stretch its head completely out of the box during colostrum feeding in order to reach the teat. The newly developed height-adjustable feed holder for bottles or teat buckets makes it easier to provide calves with colostrum and at the same time gets the animals used to CalfRail feeding. For feeding, the feed holder is positioned in such a way that the calf has to stretch its head completely out of the box to get its feed. This relieves the staff and significantly shortens the training phase.
